Carrie Akins Elected as President-Elect for ACTE-Maryland / MCTA

Carrie Akins has been elected as the next MCTA / ACTE-Maryland president-elect.  Carrie will serve on the MCTA executive board through 2028.  She will serve 2 years as president-elect (2022-24).  2 years as president (2024-26) and 2 years as past president (2026-28.)   Carrie Akins is the Director of Career & Technical Education for Calvert County (MD) Public Schools and the Principal at the Calvert Career & Technology Academy located in Prince Frederick, Maryland.  Mrs. Akins began her career in education in 2002 teaching English in Manassas Park Virginia.  She then had the privilege to be part of opening North Point High School for Science, Technology, and Industry in Waldorf, Charles County, Maryland, a comprehensive CTE high school.  It was at North Point that she was introduced to and became passionate about CTE, especially through her work with SkillsUSA, where she advised and coached two national gold medalist teams for Quiz Bowl and several state medalists in Prepared Speech and Extemporaneous Speaking competitions. Mrs. Akins later served as the Principal at Milton Somers Middle School and then as a Supervisor for CTE with Charles County Public Schools before taking her current position with Calvert County Public Schools in 2019.  Mrs. Akins holds a Bachelor's of Science in English Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master's Degree in School Administration & Leadership from The George Washington University. She resides in Prince Frederick with her husband and two children. 

MCTA Becomes an Approved Organizational Chapter for the Council of Educational, Administrative and Supervisory Organizations of Maryland.

On July 1, 2022, MCTA / ACTE-Maryland became the 22nd organizational member for the Council of Educational, Administrative and Supervisory Organizations of Maryland.

CEASOM’s Mission is to promote the continuous improvement of education  through public awareness and the collaboration of its organizational members which are essential to providing high quality and equitable education to the students of Maryland.

The Goals of CEASOM are to:
1.  Provide opportunities to member organizations to coordinate all aspects of education and to work together to foster cohesive actions through collaboration and information sharing.
2.  Strengthen and improve the quality of education programs throughout Maryland through continuous and relevant professional development of teachers, education leaders, and all education professionals.
3.  Serve as a statewide advocate for high quality education and the promotion of best practices and fiscal responsibility.
4.  Articulate, publicize, and communicate education goals and needs to local and state education stakeholders, and develop alliances with advocates who share a commitment to continuously improve education in Maryland.
